A powerful DVD video produced for Liverpool Youth Offending Service as part of its acclaimed Knife Crime Prevention Programme is now available to other Youth Offending Teams.

'My Knife Story' which was produced by Insight Moving Images Ltd is used as part of the Knife Crime Prevention Programme run by Liverpool Youth Offending Service. The programme forms part of an order for young people who have been caught carrying a knife and aims to highlight the dangers of carrying a knife and the devastating impact on the community and the victim. Liverpool is one of 10 areas that piloted the scheme as part of the government's Tackling Knives Action Programme.

The full DVD includes 5 x chapters and over 1-hour of video resources that are used as part of the eight-week programme.
Chapter 1 is a short video used in the first session of the programme to promote discussion with young people around the reasons for carrying knives.
Chapter 2 features an interview with an ex-offender who has been convicted of knife crime, talking about the consequences of his actions and time served in prison. The Medical implications of knife injuries are detailed in Chapter 3 - a very graphic presentation by a Nurse Clinician from Royal Liverpool University hospital showing real life images of horrific knife injuries. Chapter 4 focuses on Victims of Knife Crime and includes harrowing interviews with 3 x Mothers from SAMM Merseyside who have lost children through knife crime, showing the devastating impact it has had on their lives. Chapter 5 is the story of one young person as they undertake the Knife Programme at Liverpool YOS. The story is portrayed by an actor but is based on feedback from young people who have actually completed the programme in Liverpool.
